ROBOTIC HERNIA SURGERY
Patients Are Recovering Faster From Robotic Hernia Surgery
Dr. T. Ellis “Chip” Barnes is using robotic surgery techniques to transform hernia repair for patients in this region. In the past, hernia surgery required a large incision and lengthy recovery time. Over time, hernia surgery has evolved from open surgeries to laparoscopic procedures, and now to robotic surgery.
Typically, robotic-assisted hernia surgery results in a faster recovery with less pain than open or laparoscopic surgery.

Robotic-Assisted Hernia Surgery Performed By T. Ellis "Chip" Barnes, MD
Hernia repair surgery fixes the opening or place of weakness in your muscle that are causing your hernia. If you and your doctor decide that robotic-assisted surgery is right for you, here is what happens during surgery:
- Using the da Vinci surgical system, Dr. Barnes makes a few small incisions, and uses a 3DHD camera for a crystal-clear, magnified view of your hernia.
- Dr. Barnes sits at a console next to you and operates through the incisions using tiny instruments and the camera.
- The da Vinci system translates every hand movement Dr. Barnes makes in real-time, bending and rotating the instruments so he can repair your hernia.
- Dr. Barnes repositions the organ that’s causing the hernia back to its original place, reinforces the weak muscular area ,and then closes the small incisions.
The Da Vinci Surgical System Has Three Parts:
Surgeon console
Is the control center where your surgeon sits to perform the operation.
Patient cart
Holds the camera and surgical instruments your surgeon controls from the console.
Vision cart
Manages the communication between all the system components and provides a screen for the care team to view the operation.
